Nectr vs Zoho Mail

A factual comparison of Hives.cloud's Nectr and Zoho Mail for Indian MSMEs — AI features, spam protection, custom domain, migration path, and pricing.

What this compares

Zoho Mail is the default business email pick for many Indian MSMEs — cheap, Indian, reliable. Nectr is a newer AI-powered email service by Hives.cloud with a richer AI feature set and a price positioned above Zoho but below Google Workspace and Microsoft 365.

TL;DR

Zoho Mail wins on price and maturity; it is a solid, cheap, reliable business email service for Indian MSMEs. Nectr wins when AI-assisted composition, priority inbox, and advanced spam protection are worth the price step-up. The right pick depends on whether AI features move the needle for your team.

The obvious question: is Nectr worth 2.5× Zoho?

Zoho Mail Lite is roughly ₹80/user/month. Nectr is ₹199. For a 20-person company that is the difference between ₹19,000/year and ₹47,760/year — ~₹29,000 annually.

Whether that delta is worth it depends on how much time your team spends in email. If email is a primary bottleneck (sales, support, execs with inbox-heavy days), AI compose + priority inbox saves hours per week per person. If email is a supporting channel with most conversations happening elsewhere (Slack, Teams, WhatsApp), the delta is hard to justify.

Where Nectr is stronger

Nectr’s AI composition is materially more useful than Zia. Drafting a reply from three bullet points, rewriting a tone, summarising a thread — these are daily-use features rather than demo features.

Priority inbox learns from actual open/reply behaviour rather than static rules. For inboxes with 100+ messages/day, the ML-learned sorting is the difference between starting the day reactive and starting it in control.

Advanced spam protection catches behavioural threats (CEO impersonation, supply-chain phishing) that rule-based filters miss. Zoho’s spam filtering is adequate but not specifically hardened against modern business-email-compromise patterns.

Where Zoho is stronger

Zoho Mail is mature, cheap, and well-integrated with Zoho’s wider suite (CRM, Desk, Projects, etc.). If your team already lives in Zoho One, adding another vendor fragments the stack.

Zoho’s mobile apps are older and more polished in edge cases; Nectr’s mobile apps are capable but newer. If your team is mobile-first, give both a hands-on trial.

Migration between them

Migration in either direction is standard IMAP import. Our migration playbook is at /blog/zoho-mail-to-ai-email-migration — the same steps work in reverse if you need to go the other way.

Keep the source mailbox live for 30 days after cutover as a read-only safety net. Don’t cancel immediately.

Choose Nectr when

Email is a primary productivity channel, your team spends significant time in the inbox daily, and AI composition + priority inbox genuinely changes how the day goes. The price delta is worth the time saved.

Choose Zoho Mail when

You already use Zoho One for CRM/Projects/Desk (bundle savings compound), email is a supporting rather than primary tool, or the Lite tier’s ₹80 price point is a hard budget constraint.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I migrate from Zoho Mail to Nectr without losing mail?

Yes. IMAP import handles it cleanly. Plan ~24–48 hours for the initial import of a 30-mailbox company; keep Zoho live for 30 days after MX cutover as a read-only safety net. Full playbook at /blog/zoho-mail-to-ai-email-migration.

Do both support custom domains?

Yes, on every paid plan. Nectr and Zoho Mail both let you send and receive as you@yourcompany.com with standard SPF / DKIM / DMARC authentication.

How does Nectr’s AI compare to Google Workspace Gemini or Microsoft Copilot?

Nectr ships AI composition and priority inbox on every plan; Google and Microsoft gate those features behind higher tiers (~₹650–₹1,300/user/month). For AI-first email at a rupee-first price point, Nectr is the value option.

Is there a free tier?

Zoho Mail offers a free plan for up to 5 users with ads. Nectr does not have a free tier; it is priced for small business adoption starting at ₹199/user/month.

What about Zoho Mail Premium vs Nectr?

Zoho Mail Premium (~₹360/user/month as of 2026) is positioned closer to Nectr’s price. At that point the decision is feature-by-feature: Zoho Premium gives bigger mailboxes and deeper Zoho-suite integration; Nectr gives stronger AI composition and priority inbox.
